Nebraska (2013)

What would a senile old man do with a million dollars? Well, he'd buy a new air compressor and a pick-up truck, that's what. Nebraska is one of the more under-appreciated classics of the last few years. I fell in love with it almost immediately. The characters are quirky in such a real, subtle sense. You want the old man, Woody, to be happy, even though you know it will only lead to rejection. It's a fable about patience, and unconditional love. The father-son dynamic is really, really touching. A little movie like this was easily shadowed by the bigger films it was up against in 2013, but it accomplishes what many films in 2013 couldn't.. finding the sublime in the simplistic. Nebraska is a million-dollar winner in my book.
