Dead Poets Society (1989)
"Carpe Diem. Seize the day, boys. Make your lives extraordinary". It occurred to me in senior year to quote that exact line in my yearbook. Because few times has there ever been a better motto for good living. Dead Poets Society is a film about just that. An elegant film about the anti-establishment, within the establishment. Though some of the focus of the film seems to be the versatile art of poetry, it is less about that as it is about the story of these young boys and their courageous leap into adulthood and self-determination. The risks, the tragedy and the utterly bliss of it all. Mr. Keating has been a motivational speaker for the ages. O Captain, my Captain.
