Forbidden Planet (1956)
Captured the imagination of all who watched in more than 60 years ago, Forbidden Planet is a gorgeous, wonderful movie. In it's time, this was a state of the art masterpiece. You can tell how practical it's effects truly were, and yet, they still hold up. I can take or leave the Marvel movies and all their computer magic tricks, but Forbidden Planet's hand-made universe of space creatures and landscapes make me a happy man. My favorite moments were the confrontations with the electrifying Krell monster. Plus, it even stars Leslie Neilsen, not ironically, as the captain. If you love camp and kitsch as much as I do, this is for you. Have yourself a science fiction, double feature. 4 and 1/2 out of 5 Stars.
